Medialthea’s Support for EMERGENCY in Gaza

Report by Simone Ruggieri – EMERGENCY | 30 October 2025

In September 2025, Medialthea Association committed to donate €20,000 to EMERGENCY’s healthcare intervention in Gaza, providing crucial medical assistance to one of the most affected areas of the Strip.

This contribution arrived at a critical time, as EMERGENCY’s local and international staff are facing a significant increase in the number of patients requiring urgent care. Thanks to this support, the organization was able to reinforce its medical team, adding two new local nurses to the existing staff.
The clinics now count 9 nurses and 7 doctors, supported by 2 expatriate nurses and 2 expatriate doctors, who work side by side with their Palestinian colleagues.

“Personnel costs are the most important part of the project budget,” EMERGENCY explained. “Medialthea’s donation will directly contribute to covering these essential expenses, ensuring continuity of care in a context where every day counts.”

The timing of the support could not have been better: after months of logistical delays, 11 pallets of medicines and medical supplies—previously blocked in Egypt—have finally reached Gaza, allowing the clinics to continue providing free, high-quality care to the population.

EMERGENCY’s Presence on the Ground

Since August 2024, EMERGENCY has been operating a clinic in the al-Qarara area (Khan Younis), offering:

  • first aid and stabilisation of medical and surgical emergencies,

  • outpatient medical consultations for adults and children,

  • reproductive health services,

  • post-operative nursing care,

  • vaccinations,

  • and therapeutic feeding for children suffering from severe malnutrition.

The clinic treats around 240 patients per day, almost half of them children.

Since November 2024, EMERGENCY has also been providing medical and logistical support to a primary healthcare centre in al-Mawasi (Khan Younis), managed by the local NGO Culture & Free Thought Association (CFTA). Here, patients receive free medical care, medications, and post-surgical dressings.
So far, over 26,000 consultations have been carried out.

Current Situation in Gaza

Unfortunately, little has changed in the Gaza Strip.
Our colleagues report that since the start of the ceasefire, not a single day has passed without airstrikes or artillery fire.

The entry of humanitarian aid remains sporadic and far below the needs. According to the United Nations, around 750 tonnes of food aid enter Gaza daily — less than half of the 2,000 tonnes estimated as necessary by the World Food Programme.

The needs of the population remain immense. EMERGENCY’s clinics continue to be crowded, treating between 240 and 300 patients each day in each of the two facilities we operate.
“For the coming months, our goal is to continue working under the same structure,” the EMERGENCY team confirms. “The need is enormous, and as long as we can work, we will stay.

Voices of Solidarity

The official message of thanks from Rossella Miccio, President of EMERGENCY, will be shared soon.
Her words will testify once again to the value of standing together — turning generosity into concrete help for those who need it most.
