Medialthea has donated €5,000 to the Associazione Rocca dei Papi per un’Ecologia Integrale ETS, supporting the future editions of the Festival for Integral Ecology, held annually in Montefiascone, in the province of Viterbo.
The initiative promotes greater awareness of integral ecology and its practical applications, translating into concrete action the message of Pope Francis’ encyclical Laudato si’, which highlights the close relationship between environmental protection, society, culture, economy and everyday life.
A meeting point for science, culture and society
Founded in Montefiascone in 2019, the Associazione Rocca dei Papi per un’Ecologia Integrale works to promote an interdisciplinary approach to environmental issues through education, research, cultural initiatives and the enhancement of the natural and historical heritage of the Tuscia area.
Its main initiative is the Festival for Integral Ecology, an annual event bringing together universities, institutions, experts and local communities to explore the environmental, social and cultural dimensions of sustainability. The Festival is supported on its scientific and educational side by institutions including the University of Tuscia, Sapienza University of Rome, Roma Tre and LUMSA.
The Association was established from the vision of H.E. Mons. Fabio Fabene, Titular Archbishop of Montefiascone and currently Honorary President of the organisation. The Association’s own materials identify him among the key figures behind its foundation and its mission to promote the culture of integral ecology.
An initiative with a growing impact
The 2025 edition of the Festival involved more than 2,000 participants, including citizens, students, researchers and institutional representatives. Alongside public engagement, the event helped strengthen academic and institutional partnerships and increase awareness around ecological transition, social equity and sustainable development.
The Festival has continued to grow: its sixth edition, held in July 2026 under the title “Oltre i deserti”, further developed this interdisciplinary dialogue between academia, institutions, civil society and local communities.
A connection already shared with Medialthea
Mons. Fabio Fabene had already taken part in the event dedicated to Enrico Medi, supported by Medialthea, creating a natural connection between the two organisations around themes of science, responsibility, human development and care for the common good.
Through its €5,000 contribution, Medialthea will help support the future development of the Festival, including greater involvement of local schools, stronger partnerships with organisations working on sustainability and broader digital communication to reach an increasingly diverse audience. These are among the priorities identified by the Association for the next phase of the initiative.
