Building professional skills through hands-on education
Medialthea supports the development of a new healthcare and social care training laboratory at the IISS Enrico Medi in Palermo, designed for students enrolled in the school’s Health and Social Care Services programme.
The laboratory creates a realistic and safe environment where students can turn theoretical knowledge into practical skills, preparing them for professional settings in healthcare, social care and personal assistance.
Through simulations and practical exercises, students can develop not only technical abilities, but also autonomy, responsibility, teamwork and the interpersonal skills required when caring for vulnerable people.

Preparing students for real healthcare environments
The laboratory is designed to reproduce some of the situations students may encounter in their future professional careers.
Training activities include:
- Patient care and personal hygiene
- Patient mobility and assisted transfers
- Monitoring basic vital signs
- First aid and emergency simulations
- Healthcare hygiene and safety procedures
- Communication between healthcare professionals and patients
- Teamwork and care planning
The space is equipped with dedicated healthcare furniture, training mannequins, mobility aids and other professional tools, allowing students to practise procedures in a controlled environment before entering real care settings.
Through its support, Medialthea is helping the IISS Enrico Medi transform a traditional classroom into a dedicated professional training environment, giving students the opportunity to develop practical skills in conditions that reproduce real healthcare and social care settings.
